Hobart R Maugans, 97, of Ostrander, died Tuesday (Aug 25 2009) in Delaware Court Health Center.

He was born March 17, 1912 in Richwood to Adonis Joseeph and Lena (Russell) Maugans.  Hobart lived most of his lifetime in Ostrander and graduated from Ostrander High School in 1930.  He proudly served his country in the 3rd Infantry regiment of the U.S. Army during World War II.  He was a member of the Millcreek Baptist Church, Moose Lodge, and the Ostrander Senior Citizens.  Hobart was Mayor of Ostrander for 24 years.  He was a retired contractor, ran a trucking service and was a retired employee of the Delaware Farmers Exchange.  He loved gardening, fishing, hunting, and traveling.

He is survived by many cousins; special friends Don and Cecilia Stout, Don and Sue Dunkin, Rick Ratcliff and Katrina Hedges; and members of the Ostrander Senior Citizens.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lenore; one sister, Nadine Stanley; one brother, Robert; one nephew, Jon Manley; and his stepmother, Catherine Maugans.

A graveside servie will be at 10am Friday at Millcreek Cemetery, Ostrander, with the Rev. Eleaine Benedict officiating.
